About collection

Set No.7 entitled Laced Bodies takes inspiration from the human body and the formal language of coupling limbs. Taking the medium of glass, the set investigates the behaviour of the material when it is bent and wrapped. The deformations of the glass have very similar characteristics to linking body parts, like laced fingers, crossed legs, twisting arms. The details that perform through the glass, like wrinkles and bends mimic the human figure when it is wrapped together. The glass works through а pairing of two vessels, the folds and bends of one glass limb is coupled through the other.

Working in glass blowing involves an intensive choreography between two blowers. There is а reliance on one maker to predetermine the steps of the other in order to keep the glass from cracking or falling on the floor. This dance of making is embedded in the design of the glass objects. The technique of glass blowing allows for more fluid shapes and folds, and it is unclear how the bends will turn out every time. This reliance on material performance the design of each pairing unique in character and form. The glass starts as а cylindrical tube, and is molded bу hand to create the bends in each piece. The glass limbs are blown individually, once they have cooled the limbs are assemled together to match the pairings.
