That corpse you planted last year in your garden,

Has it begun to sprout? Will it bloom this year?

T.S. Eliott. The Waste Land

Imagine a walk in the garden, the golden rays of the morning sun play on the grass, it smells like peonies and lilac, the air seems still and heavy. A place so idyllic and calm, that it evokes anxiety. Then a focus shifts, the camera moves, just like in David Lynch’s iconic movie “Blue Velvet”, to reveal the otherly, nocturnal life: bugs and caterpillars, worrying thoughts, and waves of gloom. Bury your regrets in the garden – they will turn into flowers next year.

The installation consists of a series of abstract sculptures by Georgy Bragovsky, which are complemented by Anna Kuznetsova’s textile works.

Georgy Bragovsky (b. 1989) lives and works in Moscow. In his work, Georgy always begins by interacting directly with the material, creating physical prototypes, cutting and defining the shape. Georgy’s objects are self-containing, the conceptual part in them germinates organically, in the very process of their creation. For the GARDEN project the artist will create a series of abstract ‘flowers’, ‘plants’ and ‘animals’ executed in coloured marble and onyx. The sculptures are mid-sized, and installed on plinths.

Anna Kuznetsova (b. 1965) lives and works between Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tarussa. Anna finds her inspiration in the iconic works of philosophy and theology. She interprets and references these ideas in the context of the abstract visual landscape that she creates. For the GARDEN Anna will create a number of textile works – embroidered tapestries, which would perform a visual dialogue with the marble works by Georgy.
