Fābula Gallery is pleased to present the group project “PRECIOUS THING_S” at the Blazar contemporary art fair. The stand will feature works by Maya Golyshkina, Daria Denisova | dashkamonashka and Sasha Lemish.

Maya Golyshkina began her artistic practice during the pandemic and was soon noticed by major fashion houses and galleries in the US, Switzerland and the UK. The artist herself is at the center of her work: creating the scenography of her photographs, she plays the role of both object and subject. Self-irony in her works coexists with playfulness. Maya tries on various images in which she, without fear of appearing vulnerable, shows her inner strength.

A similar approach is characteristic of the practice of Daria Denisova aka dashkamonashka. The fair will feature new paintings by the artist, depicting detached characters, as if they came from teenage horror films of the early 2000s. These works will be supplemented by printed graphics created using artificial intelligence and video works by the artist. The characters in Dasha’s works seem to be derivatives of the capitalist system – detached and devastated, they are only outer shells deformed by attempts at improvement.

Specially for the fair, Sasha Lemish prepared a new series of works on canvas, the central theme of which was jewelry. The artist depicts sparkling crystals stuck in the soles of branded shoes and stuck to the skin. Plastically, Sasha contrasts the transparency and hardness of stone with corporeality: unlike the latter, they have a clear structure, transmit and refract light. Their appearance in the plots of the works gives a sense of meaninglessness, devaluing what is happening. Lemish often uses this technique, sometimes incorporating real crystals into his works. In this way, the artist thematizes deliberate decorativeness, and in his other series he explores the phenomena of the “beautiful” and the “disgusting.” The exhibition will be supplemented by the artist’s works from previous series.
