About collection

In his series “Remains” Misha Gudwin creates imaginary artefacts. His objects look like the shards of relics, all that remains of some great civilisation. Working exclusively with marble, he hand-engraves on its glossy surface symbols and fragments of images, which are painfully familiar elements of the visual language of the 1990s – early 2000s.

Clippit from Microsoft Office, Word Art, custom pixel art for old phone screensavers: all of these at the peak of their popularity have been associated with the ultimate computerisation and development of the digital sphere. Time has turned them from the recognisable elements of a cultural code, to purely abstract symbols, reminding us how dynamic is the visual sphere in which we live.
