In the project Rage and Mercy, Nastia Pavlova explores the shifting boundary between states that are usually perceived as opposites. Tenderness turns into aggression here, vulnerability reveals strength in itself. These states form a single tissue. It is in this collision zone that the project space arises.

Nastia’s painting series is a dark, hazy, barely groping world in which, nevertheless, the motives of tension and struggle are clearly visible. The image does not appear immediately here: it resists naming, remaining between figurative and ghostly. Sculptural vases, on the contrary, refer to the archetypal form of a ceramic vessel, but fill it with mythological and “otherworldly” symbols. They look like carrier objects: containers of traces, fears, desires, and images that came from (pre-rational) space.

Nastia Pavlova’s works are plastically self-portrait. Her observations about herself are related to the experience of duality. In the book “The Observer. Essays on the History of Vision” Mikhail Yampolsky considers the gaze not as a neutral instrument of description: it shows the very position of the subject. The observer finds himself inside the very act of seeing. In this sense, Nastia’s practice itself remains in a kind of limbo between creation and observation (internal and external).
