fābula gallery is pleased to present Kristina Rozhkova’s solo project, GUT FEELING, in which the artist explores the animal state through the lens of the cage — literal and metaphorical. The exhibition centers on the image of the cage as a universal symbol of limitations, adaptable to the nature of the creature contained within. Here, the cage ceases to be merely a tool—it transforms into a sign of stability, protection, habit, or control, permeating everyday practices, social structures, and intimate relationships.

The exhibition brings together visual and installation works exploring the various “faces” of the cage: from a child’s dog cage, perceived as a cozy home, to traps and snares, elegant domed enclosures, and transparent ant farms with total visibility. Each image highlights how the form of the environment interacts with the behavior and inner world of those within it.

The works reference childhood memories of animals as first friends and complex bonds where routine and care are intertwined with a sense of isolation. Parallels between social structures and everyday forms of containment are also explored, as well as how universal models of control manifest themselves at different scales.

Christina often addresses the theme of the “animal” in the context of this issue, as an image of the “voiceless.” Not in the context of the Aristotelian dichotomy of logos and phonē, but in the senses explored by Jacques Derrida and Jean Rancière—the lack of cultural relevance of the animal’s “cry” in the contemporary social context.

“The cage extends beyond the limits of physical restraint and spreads everywhere, like Foucault’s idea of ​​power… I don’t want to turn away from what happened, just as I wouldn’t want others to look away from it as something inconvenient.
